Sometimes is just takes getting a bad idea into the real world before people understand the stupidity of it. Now that Google is getting into the internet service provider business, it has reversed it’s position on “net neutrality.” Good for them (and freedom!).
In a dramatic…
That might be reasonable if there were an abundance of ISPs in your area, especially if some didn’t care about server use while using the internet. Most communities have one or two services provided to them. I personally have Time Warner (up to 50 Mbps) or At&t (up to 3Mbps) so you can see the competition for my money is quite fierce. So, even with that, why do they get to dictate what I can and cannot do with the service they provide me? What is the difference between downloading video, playing games, or hosting a chat server for my friends? From their perspective, its about being able to charge more for a business class line that typically doesn’t change anything about my technical service as the speeds are similar its just what I’m allowed to do with my bits and bytes. Net neutrality ultimately lets me do what I want to do with my connection to the internet within the confines of the service provided to me. Its about making the ISPs providers of the internet instead of regulators of it.
